about
Thank you for visiting! I hope you enjoy this track. Please come back and listen again, I have several new releases slated for the next year.
This is the first song that we recorded together, and my first release ever. Small Town Blue received critical praise from legendary music critic and icon Victor Infante, who described the track as "lovely and achingly sad"
This song was originally written for a RISA (Rhode Island Songwriter's Association) in the round event hosted by Beth Desombre. The performers (including Sean) were asked to debut a new song in the third round based upon a songwriter prompt chosen by the crowd at the previous month's event. We were provided with the prompt a few weeks before the show. In this case, the prompt was "Fried Eggs". So that's sort of what this song is about! (Not really, but the story is true!)
While the song holds up almost ten years after it was written, the original recording reveals our inexperience in audio engineering and mixing. Having learned much in the past 8 years, we present here a remixed, remastered version of our "micro"-hit Small Town Blue, and we hope you enjoy listening with fresh ears.
lyrics
He had a two seam heater and a cutter too
Take your best swing son he'll make a fool out of you.
He was the king of the hill with a flat bill crown
Another party boy lover, he’s the toast of the town.
He had a girl named Allie she was second to none
Wore his heart on a chain, hair red like the sun
Now Sunday at the diner he's sitting alone.
She serves his breakfast with a face made of stone.
There ain't nowhere you can hide inside of this small town.
Where every glance reminds you how you let them down.
It plays in endless repeats in his mind.
Feeling small town blue, hoping that he could find some way to rewind.
His Mom was a nurse in the ICU.
She was there when he walked in tore up and bruised.
Best friend's on a gurney he ain't breathin' no more
I guess they took one too many bottles from that liquor store.
There ain't nowhere you can hide inside of this small town.
Where every glance reminds you how you let them down.
It plays in endless repeats in his mind.
Feeling small town blue, hoping that he could find some way to rewind.
One Sunday at the diner he didn't show up.
One egg less to fry and and one empty cup.
Two weeks went by before she sent the boys around.
They found him in his chair next to one spent round.
There ain't nowhere you can hide inside of this small town.
Where every glance reminds you how you let them down.
It plays in endless repeats in his mind.
Feeling small town blue, hoping that he could find some way to rewind.
